On October 16, Google announced three new Gemini Notebook features for studying: short video overviews, interactive material overviews, and expanded quiz formats. The company describes the updates as tools for preparing for exams and reviewing personal notes, lectures, and texts in its Gemini Notebook post.

Short Video Overviews let users create a 60-second video overview to quickly review a challenging topic. Interactive Learning Overviews are available in the Reports section: they combine notes, lectures, and reading materials into a step-by-step overview that can include Studio materials such as slides, flashcards, and quizzes.
The third update concerns knowledge checks. Google has added short-answer questions, questions with multiple correct answers, and fill-in-the-blank exercises. After a quiz or a session with flashcards, users can request feedback and identify topics to review.
How to use the features when studying
For a practical study session, it is helpful to organize materials by goal: use a video overview as a quick introduction to one topic, an interactive overview as a guide through several sources, and quizzes to check what you can recall without prompts. This sequence connects reviewing material with active recall.
Google says Interactive Learning Overviews are built from study materials uploaded by the user. It is therefore useful to gather the relevant lectures and texts in a notebook in advance, then check the questions and explanations against the original materials. The announcement provides no independent measurements of the features’ effect on learning outcomes and does not specify separate availability conditions; it confirms the launch of the tools and describes their purpose.
The update makes Gemini Notebook more useful for turning collected study sources into a sequence of review and self-assessment. For students, its practical value will depend on how well the generated overviews and questions match their specific course.
